Synopsis:
This book seeks to examine the discussion of mantiq science as a rational instrument in the development and spread of Islam in the world. The research uses a qualitative approach with a literature review design, namely by examining various literature related to the history, development, and role of mantiq science in the Islamic scientific tradition. The results of the study show that the development of mantiq science in Islamic civilization has experienced quite complex dynamics. This science originally came from the Greek logical tradition pioneered by Aristotle and had received rejection from some scholars because it was considered a foreign science that had the potential to affect the purity of the faith. However, through the translation movement during the Abbasid Dynasty under the leadership of Al-Ma’mun, the science of mantiq began to be widely known and later developed by Muslim scholars such as Al-Farabi and Ibn Sina, and gained stronger legitimacy through Al-Ghazali’s thought. The findings of the research show that the science that was initially rejected has actually developed into one of the important foundations in Islamic scientific methodology. Mantiq science not only functions as a tool for logical thinking, but also plays a role in strengthening theological arguments, assisting the legal istinbath process, and becoming a means of intellectual dialogue with various civilizations. Through the systematic use of logic, Islamic teachings can be explained rationally so that they are more easily accepted by various intellectual circles in various regions of the world. This research also contributes to providing a deeper understanding that mantiq science has an important role as a rational instrument that strengthens Islamic scientific methodology, so that it is able to support the development of thought, strengthen theological arguments, and help spread Islamic teachings more systematically and acceptably in various world civilizations.
